Common challenges in mining hose operations

We solve the problems that cost mines time, material, and money.

Slurry hose wear-through

Abrasive ore particles erode standard hoses in weeks. Our nitrile-lined slurry hoses have an extra-thick wear layer that extends service life 3-5x in tailings lines.

Dewatering hose collapse

Deep-pit dewatering creates vacuum that collapses standard hoses. Our helix-reinforced TPU and rubber suction hoses maintain full bore under sustained vacuum at depths exceeding 30 meters.

Hydraulic hose failure

Drilling rig hydraulic lines face extreme pressure spikes and flexing. Our SAE-rated hydraulic hoses handle working pressures up to 4000 PSI with impulse-tested fittings.

Field result: Peru — Copper mine dewatering

How UV-stabilized TPU layflat solved high-altitude dewatering at 4,200m.

Peru Copper Mining

Situation: An open-pit copper mine in the Peruvian Andes at 4,200m altitude. The operation needed continuous dewatering of the pit floor at extreme altitude where UV radiation is 50% higher than at sea level. Standard layflat hoses were degrading in 2–3 months under intense solar exposure and sub-zero nights.

Solution: Switched to UV-stabilized TPU layflat hose with enhanced cold-temperature flexibility. The TPU material resists UV degradation and remains flexible at temperatures down to −40°C.

Outcome: Hose service life increased 400%. The mine reduced hose replacement frequency from quarterly to annually. Continuous dewatering was maintained through the full production cycle without hose-related downtime.

Mining hose FAQ

How do I select the right hose for my mining application?

The key factors are material type (abrasive slurry vs. clear water), pressure requirements (discharge vs. suction), and environmental conditions (UV exposure, temperature range, altitude). For tailings lines with coarse particles, choose nitrile-lined rubber with a thick wear layer. For dewatering, TPU layflat offers the best UV resistance and pressure-to-weight ratio. For suction service, always select helix-reinforced hose rated for full vacuum.

What is the typical wear life of a slurry discharge hose?

Wear life depends on particle size, velocity, and solids concentration. With standard rubber hoses handling coarse tailings, expect 3–6 months before pinhole leaks develop. Our nitrile-lined heavy-duty slurry hoses with extra-thick wear layers typically deliver 12–24 months in the same service — a 3-5x improvement. For extremely abrasive applications, we recommend rotation schedules and scheduled thickness inspections.

What pressure ratings are available for mining hoses?

Our mining hose range covers working pressures from 150 PSI for large-diameter suction hoses up to 4,000 PSI for hydraulic rig systems. TPU layflat dewatering hoses are typically rated 200–300 PSI. Slurry discharge hoses range from 150–400 PSI depending on diameter and construction. Always verify that your hose working pressure exceeds the maximum system pressure including surge events.

How deep can your dewatering hoses operate?

Our helix-reinforced rubber and TPU suction hoses maintain full bore under continuous vacuum at depths exceeding 30 meters. The embedded helix wire prevents collapse under the external pressure created by the water column. For depths beyond 30 meters, we recommend a two-stage pump arrangement or specifying our heavy-duty extra-helix construction for increased collapse resistance.
